I know there are some popular Mac podcasters out there who are having a Gee Dee blast exaggerating their pronunciation of “Waaaay expensive” or “Eeeeeiiiigggghhhhtttt thousand dollars” for the latest Macs, but being an oldie… I kinda think, “Eh.” Now, don’t get me wrong, Macs are far more expensive than they used to recently be. But thinking back to when I bought some Macs, I don’t know. It’s the same amount. And that’s with RAMageddon included in the bumped up price.

In fact, the 1997 MacWarehouse Catalog lists a PowerBook 3400c for $6,499 (which is $13,500 in 2026 dollars) and you can’t even configure a current 16” M5 Max MacBook Pro for more than $10,149. Again, a lot of money to be sure. But less than what was top of the line back in the day (which, remember, was far, far, far less capable than what we have today). I think a lot of people need to See the Eff Dee.
